April 10th, 2014 – Social Event

Our quarterly Social Evening was held at Mark Masons’ Hall, and a great time was had by all.

The Lodge of Joppa celebrated its 225th anniversary at Temple 10, Freemasons’ Hall. It was attended by the Deputy President of the Board of General Purposes, an Assistant Metropolitan Grand Master, a Metropolitan Grand Inspector, the President and Vice President of the RMBI and, of course, the Kent Club!

Members of the Association of the Atholl Lodges paraded into the lodge, wearing tricorn hats and bearing white wands. There was then an Initiation, followed by a short history of the Atholl Grand Lodge.

January 22nd, 2014 – the role of the Grand Chancellor’s office

The brethren of the Kent Club and St.Cecilia’s Lodge were treated to a fascinating insight into the the role of the Grand Chancellor by V.W.Bro John Hamill AGChan and WBro Peter Roberts.

John Hamill explained how, for over 200 hundred years, responsibility for relations with foreign Grand Lodges and determining their regularity was the preserve of the Grand Secretary. However, following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the spread of democracy across eastern Europe, the task of liaising with the proliferation of new masonic bodies began to take up too much time. Therefore the role of Grand Chancellor was created. John Hamill went on to give us examples of current activities, especially in relation to the GLNF, followed by Peter Roberts who spoke about the detail of the operational aspects of the Grand Chancellor’s office. At the end of the talk there was time for a Q&A session.

Many thanks to the Master and Brethren of St. Cecilia’s Lodge for kindly hosting the event.
