“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope.”
Winston Churchill was a Freemason, having been initiated into Studholme Lodge No. 1591 on 24 May 1901. From his hidden bunkers, which defended him from the Blitz of 1940 and other enemy attacks, he plotted and planned Great Britain’s WWII campaign. It is was in these War Rooms that Churchill also made his 11 September 1940 speech warning of Hitler’s plan to wage a war of terror on the country.
About 20 of us met at the War Rooms, donned our audio guides and then spent over 2 hours exploring the fascinating complex and the very impressive Churchill Museum. We all then headed for a great pub lunch afterwards.
